The Association Connecting Electronic Industries certifies those working in electronic assemblies with the IPC-A-610, also known as Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies.It is a crucial part of the training that employees in the field of electronic manufacturing must complete.

Persons directly in charge of the quality and dependability of electronic assemblies are eligible for IPC a-610 certification. Additionally, it makes someone qualified to instruct others on surface mounting requirements, jumper wire assembly specifications, and soldering standards.

The IPC-A-610 standard is used in electronic manufacturing to distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable printed circuit board assembly practices. It entails a training and certification process that qualifies and prepares a person or provider of electronics manufacturing services to deliver goods acceptable to the industry.

According to the IPC-A-610, electronic assemblies are categorized as follows: 

Class 1: The least stringent category for electronics assemblies, it tolerates potential flaws. Most things in this class are installed in inexpensive, frivolous items like cheap toys. Class 1 printed circuit board assemblies have limited usable lives, yet they perform as expected. Class 1 electronics assemblies’ completed product price can readily support their superior quality. 

Class 2: Many Original Equipment Manufacturers consider this standard to be acceptable. Although the goods in this category are of a low caliber, manufacturers nonetheless request it contract electronic manufacturers (CEM) to produce electronic assemblies that aren’t crucial but need long-term dependability.

Although this class has little tolerance for flaws, such as the placement of surface-mounted components “off the pad,” it significantly impacts the final product’s affordability.

Class 3: Class 3 workmanship, the highest standard, is the greatest in terms of quality, longevity, and neatness. It is designed for critical assembly and PCB assemblies of high-end electrical goods. CEM providers are mandated to create class 3 goods by default but will create subpar assemblies if their employer requests it. The additional quality control and any required rework are part of the cost equipment manufacturers pay to make sure that none of their goods is subpar. It makes no sense why they would cost more.
